About the PTA
The Menands School PTA is a growing group of parents, teachers and community members who care about supporting our children and providing them with an enriched educational experience. As a PTA member you become part of a much larger group which includes our local unit members plus the State and National members too.

PTA Mission Statement
To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children
To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children
To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation
PTA is the nation’s largest volunteer child advocacy organization, comprising more than 5 million members and 25,000 local PTA's representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Department of Defense schools in the Pacific and Europe. PTA welcomes into membership people representing a diversity of cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and political and religious beliefs—simply, anyone who supports the principles of PTA.
The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) comprises millions of parents and other concerned adults devoted to supporting student achievement and promoting parent involvement in schools. As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, PTA speaks with a powerful voice on behalf of every child and provides the best tools for parents and communities to help their children be successful students.
New York State PTA Membership of over 356,000 includes parents, teachers, administrators, students, and other child advocates statewide in over 1500 local units and councils.
New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers is the first state branch of the National Congress, organized in October 1897. In 1899 it was incorporated as The Mothers’ Assembly of the State of New York. In 1920 it was reincorporated as the New York State Congress of Mothers’ and Parent-Teacher Associations. In 1925 the name was changed to the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc.
The State PTA:
Coordinates programs statewide on behalf of children and youth
Is represented on state committees and commissions dealing with children and youth
Provides conferences, workshops, publications, resource material on issues, and leadership development
Services units and councils through its 16 region PTAs
